Hi Mark,
is there a particular reason why you have anonymised the list a few
days ago?

Hi Christian
There was/is. It is a personal reason. It was annoying me that I
couldn't just click "Reply" to reply to the list on a post.
"Reply" went to the original sender instead.
If everyone wants the lists to show email addresses again, I can turn
them back on.
(otherwise I am really happy I could just "Reply" to this post.)

Regards,

Cambo

My "Reply" was working fine in either case. It used the entry in the
"Reply-to" field instead of the "From". Maybe it's your client? I'd
prefer them back on.

Hi Cambo,
that's weird. Usually you can configure mailing lists to either have
the reply-to header line set to the list address or the sender address.
The old configuration already had the reply-to line set to the list
address. I know that Outlook tends to do strange things but I would
think that you could get it to use reply-to addresses.

I would also prefer to have a list that is not anonymised because it
leaves you the option to write back privately.

Cheers,
Christian

P.S.: On Sylpheed Claws I can actually configure that I always want to
post to the list address, no matter what the reply-to says. Maybe
Outlook can do that as well?

You must have a strange client, it always replied to the list for
me. And yes, I'd rather see the sender's name/address, makes it
easier to keep track of who's saying what. Otherwise it's going to
get horribly confusing :-/

Please disregard my previous post, if you can see which one that is :-P

This is annoying, I too would prefer to see the REAL senders address as
it can make it easy to find the response you are looking for in a
collection of old emails.

I.E. Yer I remember Joe Blogs said something about that on MLUG last
week I'll just dig it up.

Cheers,
Chris

I agree with Tony - though the only way I know it's Tony is by his sig.
Please change the list reply function back to what it was. Any standard
mail client will let people reply to the list.

Personally, I think it's a little rude / presumptuous of a list admin to make
this sort of change without consulting the list members. Especially when the
reason for doing so is to work around what would seem to be a trivial "bug"
in their own email client.

I for one would _much_ prefer to see the address visibility restored.

I don't know about other people, but I tend to pay more attention to posts
from people I either know or know of (by reputation), and when glancing at
incoming message headers, seeing a familiar email addy is a quick flag to
think "hey, this might be worth reading"...

Works for me (as you can see). How could the mailing list manager
influence reply-all? That just means that you use reply-to, sender and
CC from the original email.

Okay either the earlier email from Tony Langdon had something funny going on
or Cambo has adjusted the list again.

A reply-all with THIS email from Christian worked as I expect:
- reply to Christina and to the list.

I don't think it's rude at all, after all the list admins job is to
make and implement decisions, not to chair an email commitee meeting.
And he can always change course if any given action finds people
objecting as has happened here.
